Commissary

COMMISSARY / INMATE ACCOUNTS

While in custody, inmates can use money “on their books” to make purchases from the Commissary.  Items available through the commissary include food items, clothing, toiletry articles, writing materials, postage, some OTC medical supplies, miscellaneous items, such as radios, cassette players, batteries, cards, pre-paid telephone cards, etc.

Although the Sheriff’s Department provides all the basic nutrition and hygiene needs, permitting inmates to purchase items from the commissary provides a level of variety not otherwise available to them.

In order to allow inmates access to the commissary during their incarceration, funds may be put in their accounts (on their books) at any time.  If after normal business hours, on weekends and holidays, money orders made payable to the inmate can be brought to the Dispatch Office.  During regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., money orders or cashier’s checks (made payable to the inmate) or cash can be brought to Criminal Records or the Warden’s Office.  NO PERSONAL OR MULTIPLE PARTY CHECKS, PLEASE!

Funds may be deposited to an inmate’s account through the mail; however, please do not send cash by mail.  To repeat, please only send money orders or cashier’s checks made payable to the inmate.

If the inmate is released before his order arrives, he has 72 hours to claim the order.  After this, it will become the property of the jail.

All unused funds will be returned to the inmate at the time of release from custody.
