Intensive Outpatient Program
The Saint Helena Parish Hospital Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
This program is designed to treat individuals who are 55 years of age and who:
Are experiencing depression or thinking disturbance,
Have the mental capacity to participate in group therapy,
Are independent with toileting, and
Do not have a primary substance abuse/addiction problem.
First and foremost, IOP is not a geriatric day care program.
If you are experiencing any of the following conditions, you might benefit from this program:
Sleep problems
Recent weight change
Anxiety
Depresssion
Tearfulness
Unresolved Grief
Anger
Loss of Interest
IOP can be a transition from a higher level of care or it can be an earlly intervention to prevent the need for a higher level of care.
Members attend group meetings three days a week for three hours (10: am – 2:00 pm) plus an hour for lunch (provided by the program). Transportation is also provided within the service area. Costs are covered by Medicare. Indigent slots are available.
Therapies are focused on learning skills for identifying and coping with depression and other mental health issues.
Each individual is an active participant in setting treatment goals. Progress is continually assesed to assure that participation is beneficial and appropriate to their specific needs.
Staff includes a Program Director, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, a registered nurse and licensed therapists.
